About Goldfinch

About us

Goldfinch Guitar founder and designer Philip Smith portraitGoldfinch is a custom online guitar boutique based out of Hollywood, California, started by designer Philip Smith in 2016.

It began when Philip was at a crossroads. In a time of hardship and heartbreak, he turned inward to his passion and creativity, and sat down to draw his dream guitar. The first ever Goldfinch design came to life in his parents’ garage, and no one could have predicted how far this goldfinch would soar.

Striking design

Goldfinch guitar designs are striking and retro, pulling inspiration from vintage 1960s Japanese guitars. The colors are hand picked to pop, drawing the eye, standing out from the crowd on any stage. The body shapes evoke themes of nature and robots alike. Goldfinch guitars would look right at home in a classic comic book, nostalgic monster movie, or rustic folk band.

Lightweight

Most guitar players experience neck or back pain after years of playing with heavy guitars. To make matters worse, Philip was born with a C1 misalignment of the neck, which makes touring and performing quite an ordeal. Goldfinch guitars are purposefully designed to be lightweight to allow for more hours of playtime, and to save us all from back pain.

Accessible and affordable

Goldfinch guitars are manufactured at the Epiphone factory in China to our exact specifications. We’ve developed a strong bond with our manufacturers and stand by the build, quality, and playability of our guitars. We’ve chosen to invest in only the necessary components of each guitar, to keep the cost low. You won’t find bells and whistles, just sleek and simple perfection. This makes our guitars perfect for both beginners and pros.

Nothing else quite like it

We don’t aim to replace anyone’s Gibson, but rather offer an alternative design and unique sound (with our use of ferrite magnets in our humbucker pickups), while providing a fashionable instrument that makes a statement. We don’t like to blend in. Goldfinch focuses on creativity, connectivity, and passion. We believe in great color, impeccable sound, and even better playability. Central to the Goldfinch design ethos is the idea that the player experience should be like that of an inspired musical composition: blend the comfort of the familiar with the invigoration of the creative unknown.
